Lviv

Lviv, formerly Lwow (when part of Poland) and Lemberg (when in Austrian Empire) is in Galicia an area of Ukraine that is known for its culture. It is considered the cultural capital of Ukraine with an opera, philharmonic orchestra and many universities.  Jews had made up 10% of Galicia’s population in 1941 when Nazis invasion and those that didn’t flee to central Asia, were the first to be killed.
